58: Stormy Seas

Pohnpei is just below the Nangka cyclone in the picture. Typhoon season is supposed to end in April. This is messing with my schedule to go to Pakin. Get it together, Climate, and don’t give me none of those global warming excuses.

In other news, my host mom's maternal uncle just died (he lived in California but will be buried on his home island Namoluk). She is taking it quite hard - maternal uncles are a big deal in a matrilineal culture. From what I've read they can be more influential than the father. From what I experienced, my host dad definitely has a lot of say on his nephews' and nieces' lives (his sisters also live in the village).
