04: Islands from Above

So these pictures are pretty mucky – the reason: A couple of days ago a storm passed through FSM, so it’s unusually cloudy, the sea unusually rough, plenty of trees fallen over, and the plane ride was a little bumpy (luckily nothing more). No injuries or casualties though. The power went out at Pohnpei airport right when it was my turn in the immigration line though, which was fun. Immigration island-style.

Oroluk: This is a view of Oroluk (at least I’m pretty sure it is, according do my co-worker Selino), which is quite a large coral reef that does not penetrate the surface. Hence apparently it is not important enough for Google Earth to have a picture of it.
Chuuk: Our plane did a quick pitstop in Chuuk, one of the 4 other states in FSM besides Pohnpei. Apparently coral reefs glow!
Pakin: I caught a glimpse of Pakin through the clouds! Since the ocean is still too rough after the storm, the planned trip to visit Pakin tomorrow was canceled – I’m really excited to go soon!
Pohnpei: The landing was a little rough, and you know how sometimes you have like a 1 second moment of doubt whether the pilot will actually touch down on the runway and not the water? That was a very uncomfortable 5 seconds for me…
